A Greene County sheriff’s investigator was killed in a crash this afternoon on Route 230 near Dundee Road in Greene County.

The Virginia State Police issued a news release stating that the investigator’s vehicle ran off the right side of the road. When the vehicle got back on the road, it crossed the centerline and was broadsided by a westbound tractor-trailer.

Both vehicles caught fire as result of the crash, according to the release. The investigator died at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident.  The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the crash.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by Trooper J.A. Taylor with assistance from the Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team and Motor Carrier Troopers, the release said.
