Election officials are reporting that 34.6 percent of registered voters in Albemarle County and 24.4 percent of Charlottesville voters had cast a ballot by 4 p.m. in today’s election.

The 4 p.m. turnout figures show moderate levels of turnout prior to the evening rush as people head to the polls after work.

Albemarle election officials had projected between 50 percent and 55 percent voter turnout, while Charlottesville officials anticipated a more modest 40 percent turnout.

The polls close at 7 p.m.
