Afternoon election turnout results

Charlottesville-area polling places are reporting low to moderate levels of voter turnout, election officials said Tuesday afternoon.

As of 1 p.m., 5,116 voters had cast a ballot in Charlottesville, marking a turnout of 18.6 percent.

“That’s lower than 2005 at this point,” said Charlottesville registrar Sheri Iachetta.

Voters turned out at a slightly higher rate in Albemarle County, where 25.9 percent of voters had cast a ballot by 1 p.m.

On the ballot are candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, candidates for the House of Delegates and an array of local races, including two seats on Charlottesville’s City Council and three seats on Albemarle’s Board of Supervisors.
