Senior medical advisers to Democratic nominee Barack Obama and Republican nominee John McCain will debate health care issues facing the next administration next week at the University of Virginia.

The debate will held at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Rotunda’s Dome Room at UVa.
Participants will include: Obama adviser Dr. Irwin Redlener, a clinical professor of population and family health at Columbia University; and Dr. William Winkenwerder Jr., a former assistant secretary of defense for health affairs and a board director of several health companies.

Dr. Arthur Garson, UVa’s executive vice president and provost, will moderate the debate. Garson, who is a former dean of UVa’s School of Medicine, is co-author of “Health Care Half-Truths: Too Many Myths, Not Enough Reality.”
