Voter turnout in Albemarle County and Charlottesville is holding strong throughout the day.

Nearly half - 49.9 percent - of the county’s 67,352 voters had cast a ballot as of 1 p.m.

In the city, 11,877 of 28,678 registered voters had voted by 1. That represents a turnout of 41.42 percent.

“We’ve processed 1,979.5 voters per hour between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m.,” said Rick Sincere, chairman of Charlottesville Electoral Board. “It’s been very busy.”

In the last presidential election, 76 percent of Albemarle County voters turned out, while the figure stood at 67 percent in Charlottesville.

Another turnout report is expected after 4 p.m.
