Democrat Tom Perriello’s bid to unseat U.S. Rep. Virgil H. Goode Jr., R-Rocky Mount, is getting a sizable last-minute cash infusion.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spent $282,668 on Tuesday for TV advertisements supporting Ivy resident Perriello.
In all, the DCCC has spent $644,584 on behalf of Perriello during the campaign.
Jessica Barba, Perriello’s spokeswoman, said the DCCC’s support shows that the race is increasingly competitive.

“They’re obviously seeing something in this race that is compelling them to give,” she said. “It’s great.”
As of Oct. 15, Goode had a significant cash advantage in the race, according to campaign finance documents.

Goode has represented the 5th District since 1997. The district includes Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene and Nelson and localities stretching to Southside Virginia.
