Democrats hold Council and sheriff’s office

The Democrats’ hold on the City Council is set for another two years, after the two Democratic candidates in Charlottesville’s biggest race on Tuesday handily outdid their opponents.

Democratic Mayor Dave Norris and challenger Kristin Szakos won 6,292 and 5,074 votes, respectively. The numbers added up to each candidate receiving more than 38 and 31 percent of Charlottesville’s votes.

For City sheriff, Albemarle County police Officer James E. Brown III led the race with 5,504 votes. Independent candidate Paul Best received 3,425 votes.
