Goode objects to ad with NRA rating claim

U.S. Rep. Virgil H. Goode Jr., R-Rocky Mount, is accusing the campaign of his challenger, Democrat Tom Perriello, of embellishing his support from the National Rifle Association.

A new Perriello ad shows the candidate saying, “The NRA gave me their top rating.” Text at the bottom of the screen says, “Received an A rating from the NRA.”
In fact, Perriello has received the NRA’s “AQ” rating, which is the highest rating that a new candidate for Congress can receive from the NRA’s political victory fund.
According to the Fairfax-based gun rights group’s Web site, an AQ rating describes “a pro-gun candidate whose rating is based solely on the candidate’s responses to the 2008 NRA-PVF Candidate Questionnaire and who does not have a voting record on Second Amendment issues.”
The NRA has endorsed Goode in the race.

“The Goode for Congress campaign is demanding that Perriello pull his ad due to the inaccurate claims it contains,” Goode’s news release said Friday.
For its part, Perriello’s campaign has demanded that Goode pull an ad that shows a darkened photo of Perriello and misstates his position on offshore oil drilling.
