League of Women Voters plans forum on area growth

The Charlottesville/Albemarle League of Women Voters will host a forum next week about the ecological impact of future population growth.

The event aims to spark community dialogue about a report commissioned by Advocates for a Sustainable Albemarle Population.

The study — Estimating Impacts of Population Growth on Ecosystem Services for the Community of Albemarle County and Charlottesville — was funded by the governments of Albemarle and Charlottesville, as well as donations from the Colcom Foundation and other donors.

Some support the idea of identifying a maximum population that the region can sustain, while critics say the idea is simply an attempt to limit growth.

The forum will be held at noon Sept. 22 at Lane Auditorium in the County Office Building at 401 McIntire Road.
