U.S. Rep. Tom Perriello, D-Ivy, will host an event today to highlight a recently expanded program that allows uninsured Virginians to receive a discount on prescription drugs.

The information session on the Together Rx Access program will be held from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library’s central branch on East Market Street.

A consortium of pharmaceutical companies established the Together Rx Access card as a free drug discount program that is available to families that do not have prescription drug benefits and are not eligible for Medicare.

Cardholders typically save between 25 percent and 40 percent on brand-name prescriptions. Some 1.9 million Americans have enrolled.

The program’s eligibility income limits were recently increased. As a result, nearly 90 percent of uninsured Americans qualify for participation.

For more information, go to TogetherRxAccess.com or call 1-800-250-2864.
