Primary turnout exceeds expectations
Voter turnout today in Charlottesville and Albemarle County continues to surpass expectations.
As of 4 p.m., 8.22 percent of voters in Charlottesville and 7 percent of voters in Albemarle had cast a ballot in the Democratic primary.
Election officials across the Charlottesville region had projected a 5 percent voter turnout.
Voters are selecting a Democratic nominee for governor. On the ballot are Sen. R. Creigh Deeds, Terry McAuliffe and Brian Moran.
Running for lieutenant governor are Judy Wagner and Michael Signer. A third candidate, Jon Bowerbank, had dropped out of the race but remains on the ballot.
Three precincts in western Albemarle are also selecting a Democrat - either James G. Noel or Greg J. Marrow - to challenge Del. Steve Landes, R-Weyers Cave.
