An aide to U.S. Rep. Tom Perriello, D-Ivy, said Tuesday that Ridge Schuyler will serve as his district director, a position that oversees staff and operations of the newly elected congressman’s district offices.

Schuyler, who began in his new job Tuesday after Perriello was sworn into office, was previously director of the Piedmont program of the Nature Conservancy in Charlottesville.

“He’s a catch,” said Jessica Barba, Perriello’s press secretary. “He knows the district and he knows Congress.”

Before joining the Nature Conservancy, Schuyler worked on Capitol Hill for around a decade. He was legislative director for former U.S. Sen. Chuck Robb and was chief of staff for U.S. Rep. Rick Boucher.

Schuyler, who will remain based in Charlottesville, has played a key role in the region’s debate over its water supply. He serves on the South Fork Rivanna Reservoir Task Force, which is investigating the state of the reservoir and its future.
