The town of Louisa is holding a dedication ceremony at 1 p.m. Friday to celebrate the completion of the Phase One Downtown Improvements Project. The event will be held at the pedestrian bridge next to the Triangle Shopping Center.

The first phase of the project focused on pedestrian safety. The town installed about 3,700 feet of accessible sidewalks from Pine Ridge Road to Triangle Shopping Center, improved crosswalks at the intersection of Route 22 and U.S. 33, added a pedestrian bridge across Beaver Creek and made landscaping improvements.

The upgrades utilized funding from the Virginia Department of Transportation’s TEA-21 Transportation Enhancement Program. Future phases of the project will include the replacement and addition of sidewalks, installation of traffic calming devices and streetscaping.
