Dominion Virginia Power today began powering down one of the two nuclear reactors at its North Anna power station for repair work.

Information from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission showed that North Anna’s Unit 2 had been taken down to 85 percent of production capacity this morning.

“We’re doing some work on one of the condensers,“ utility spokesman Richard Zuercher said. The work involved piping that draws water from Lake Anna to be used in the unit’s condenser, he said.

“This is temporary. The unit should be returned to full power soon,“ Zuercher said, declining to specify a target date for the completion of the work.

North Anna’s Unit 1 remained at full power this morning.
