Two people died in a single-vehicle wreck in Nelson County on Sunday morning, according to Virginia Sate Police.

The accident happened around 11 a.m. on U.S. 29 near Virginia 615 just south of the Albemarle County line, said Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller.

The vehicle was traveling northbound on U.S. 29 when it ran off the left side of the highway and crossed the median onto the southbound lane, said Geller.

The vehicle overturned after it struck an embankment and landed in a culvert. Both the driver and the passenger died at the scene, said Geller.

Police were not releasing the victims’ names because the next of kin were yet been notified as of Sunday evening. Both victims were from out of state, said Geller.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the wreck.
