Bush sending Colombia free trade pact to Congress
WASHINGTON (AP) _ An administration official says President Bush will announce that he is sending a controversial free trade agreement with Colombia to Congress, a move that will force a congressional vote within 90 days.
Officials extinguish Olympic torch 3 times amid protests in Paris
Despite massive security, at least two activists got within almost an arm’s length of the flame before they were grabbed by police. Officers tackled many protesters and carried off some of them. A protester threw water at the torch but failed to extinguish it and was also taken away.
Police seeking tipster in polygamist raid
State troopers raided the 1,700-acre West Texas ranch on Friday to look for evidence that the teen, who called authorities a week ago, was married. They planned to continue interviews Monday with some of the women and children, who were transported to a historic San Angelo museum, said Child Protective Services spokeswoman Marleigh Meisner.

New York man convicted of starving, killing step-daughter
Cesar Rodriguez continues to insist he was innocent in the shocking death of his 7-year-old stepdaughter even as he was sentenced Thursday to up to 29 years in prison. The scrawny and battered girl, Nixzmary Brown, was bound to a chair, starved and forced to urinate in a litter box before she was killed with a fatal blow to the head.
L.A. highway shootings worry commuters
Increasing gunplay along the freeway has L.A. drivers worried about fellow drivers. At least seven shootings in the past six weeks along major roadways have resulted in five deaths and several injuries. Many drivers have been left with the jitters, and jammed commuter corridors have been brought to a halt while authorities searched for clues in the shootings that officials said were not connected. Unlike recent events in Central Virginia, the California shootings tend to be car-to-car or road rage related.

Toddler marriage rights removed
Arkansas law loophole allowing anyone over the age of one hour to marry providing parents signed off on the marriage, was repealed by a measure signed into law Wednesday by Gov. Mike Beebe, ending months of embarrassment for the state and confusion for county clerks. Lawmakers didn’t realize until after the end of last year’s regular session that a law they approved, intended to establish 18 as the minimum age for marriage, instead removed the minimum age to marry entirely.
