BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan — The director of a circus arena says an ice-skating bear turned on its trainers, killing one and seriously wounding another.
Kurmangazy Isanayev says workers dragged the trainers with a visiting Russian troupe away from the bear following Wednesday’s attack, as they were rehearsing for a show in Bishkek.
The exits were then closed and rescue services called in.
Police say they shot the bear dead.

Another tragic incident that involves animals. An ice skating bear sounds cute – but in reality, that’s a large and very dangerous predator being paraded in front of people. Dangerous animals being made to perform tricks is a long human pastime and its dangerous game that people sometimes lose. A circus on tour from Kyrgyzstan saw its ice skating bear go awry, killing its handler and mauling another person. Some months ago, Kelly Ann Walz was killed by a pet black bear, and in both instances, the bear was immediately put down, and one would think that it would set an example. An ice skating bear sounds like it might be worth a payday loan to see, but large predators are to be avoided for a reason.
