Can’t make it to the inauguration?

Numerous events in the Charlottesville area will mark Tuesday’s presidential inauguration of Barack Obama.
Viewing parties for the 11:30 a.m. ceremony will be held at several local restaurants, including Boyland Heights at 102 14th St. NW and Wild Wing Café at 820 W. Main St.
The University of Virginia’s John Paul Jones Arena will open at 10:30 a.m. to show live coverage of the swearing-in ceremony. Admission is free and open to the public.
UVa’s Alumni Hall will also show the inaugural ceremony on two large viewing screens.
The Paramount Theater is also slated to show the inauguration, but the free tickets were scooped up almost immediately.
Several businesses and organizations are hosting events Tuesday evening, as well.
The Quality Community Council will hold a family-friendly “celebration of community organizing” from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Carver Recreation Center.
The group’s event is open to the public and will feature a rebroadcast of Obama’s inauguration, as well as a lasagna dinner and live music by the Righteous Friendz reggae band and hip hop group Burnt Bush. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Tickets may be bought at the group’s office at 327 W. Main St., Suite 101, and may be reserved by calling 977-3045.
Mas, located at 501 Monticello Road, will host its own inauguration party starting at 8 p.m. The tapas restaurant will offer Chicago-style deep-dish pizza and brats in a reference to Obama’s hometown.
The X-Lounge, meanwhile, will host a “party for hope” starting at 8 p.m. and running until 2 a.m. The event will feature music, dancing and footage from the inauguration and inaugural balls occurring in Washington.
