Slutzky thinks deeply on variety of issues
David Slutzky is certainly self-assured and he challenges convention. He is also by far the more capable of the candidates running for Rio District.
Which McDonnell can voters believe?
The timing of Bob McDonnell’s regret should be sounding alarm bells off in the minds of working women, feminists and homosexuals.
Paul Best would be best for city sheriff
Paul Best is the “best” choice for Charlottesville sheriff.

Loophole ‘solution’ shifts burden
Closing the Virginia gun show loophole is a fine idea. Problem is, none of proponents are addressing the other side’s concerns about how this will be done.
58th District lucky that Neff wants job
Citizens of the 58th District are privileged that Cynthia Neff is running for Rob Bell’s seat in the House of Delegates.

Neff won’t say no to higher taxes
We don’t have to look at what they say, but can just look at their records.
Norris, Fenwick would save park
I’m basing my vote on this issue because the Meadowcreek Parkway is a disaster for Charlottesville.

Virginia is ripe for green reform
The title of the Oct. 7 article “Planning Commis-sion: Allow wind turbines” (The Daily Progress) brings up the crucial point that Virginia should not only allow more wind turbines, but should also be jumping at the chance to invest in this and other clean energy technologies.
Voters should limit reach of government
As citizens of this great state and country, we have this November a tremendous opportunity.
Broad vision is needed for city
City Council elections will be here on Nov. 3. There are many issues confronting the citizens of Charlottesville in the days ahead, and it will take dedicated and informed leaders to meet those challenges.
Bell is all he seems
Cynthia Neff’s campaign assertion that “Rob Bell is just like a cheating husband who gets away with it” has made it impossible for me to remain silent. Not only is this assertion sleazy, it is simply untrue.
County ought to break cycle of just taxing and spending
In “County mulls once ‘unthinkable’ cuts” (The Daily Progress, Oct. 17), we continue to hear only two options from our elected officials: one, reduce spending; the other, increase taxes. No one seems to examine our supervisors’ chronic bad management decisions.
Supervisor’s vision of world dangerous
I am writing to inform the citizens of Albemarle about a conversation I had two years ago with my neighbor, David Slutzky.
Slutzky vs. Thomas race bringing out the worst
The hallmark of mature citizens in a mature democratic society would be noticeable by several characteristics.
Redundancies hurt current health system
As the health care debate rages, here is my relatively insignificant recent experience with health care.
Neff’s attack on Bell misguided
Many years ago there was a commercial: “Where’s the beef?” As an independent voter in Albemarle, I am still waiting.

City needs a good Par 3
One of my dreams for Charlottesville has been to have a public par-three golf course.
Deeds, Wagner and Shannon are best
Please vote Nov. 3 for Deeds, Wagner and Shannon.
Cummings would be worthy successor
I urge everyone in Samuel Miller District to vote for Madison Cummings on Nov. 3.
Neff campaign piece is a grasping at straws
Connie Sylvester
Democratic ticket is right for Virginia
I ask voters to support Creigh Deeds, Jody Wagner, Steve Shannon, Dave Norris, Kristin Szakos and James Brown, Democrats.
Bell a good neighbor and good legislator
Most of the time Rob Bell is just being a dad, a citizen and good neighbor. This has made him an important part of our state government and community.

Pleas for money distort politics
With each election cycle, we are bombarded by pleas to contribute to someone’s election campaign, whether by mail, phone or fliers.
Democratic leaders serve Virginia well
Look at Bob McDonnell’ actions — voting against a resolution to end wage discrimination based on gender.
Slutzky has right attributes for board
David Slutzky fully understands the complex issues facing Albemarle County today and has the intelligence and experience to create effective solutions.

Work together for town’s progress
As a resident of one of Charlottesville’s “bedroom communities,” I want to comment on one of the area’s highest potential rural towns, Stanardsville.
Bell intervened in hospital bill problem
Del. Rob Bell has clout.

Schools small; benefits immeasurable
As the principal architect for the present design of Red Hill and Scottsville schools, I wish to applaud the many reasons for keeping the three schools open.
Re-elect Bolling for fiscal responsibility
Bill Bolling’s 18 years of service in government make him the most qualified candidate to seek the lieutenant governor’s office.

Try a ‘tougher’ way in U.S. war
The Oct. 9 editorial, “A failure of commitment” (The Daily Progress), invites the question: How tough is President Obama, anyway?
