Deeds, Wagner and Shannon are best

Creigh Deeds understands middle- and lower-income families are suffering in the current economy. Instead of promises, he created the Virginia Clean Energy Bill, which supports family home improvements that will create jobs for the new energy economy in renewables, efficiency and weatherization.
Creigh knows that protecting Virginia’s natural resources supports the state’s tourism economy as well as new businesses seeking high quality of life. His legislative record of 86 percent on the League of Conservation Voters’ scorecard contrasts with his opponent’s failing grade of 18 percent.
Creigh is supported by many moderate Republicans: former Senate Majority Leader John Chichester, former state senators Brandon Bell and Russ Potts, and former delegates Vince Callahan and Panny Rhodes because they know that he works for results, not politics.
As lieutenant governor, Jody Wagner would be the first woman in 20 years to hold statewide office. A Tidewater businesswoman and former state secretary of finance, she is eminently qualified to help Gov. Deeds move Virginia through this critical period.
Former prosecutor Steve Shannon, a Northern Virginia delegate, will maintain public safety while fighting Internet abuses and predatory lending. He is non-ideological in approach — in contrast to his opponent, who has supported extreme-right positions.
Record numbers turned out last year to vote for president, but the gubernatorial election is perhaps even more critical to our everyday life. Creigh Deeds will use his intelligence, moderation and teamwork to create job growth, to budget for roads and buses, schools and colleges and to protect Virginia’s natural resources.
Please vote Nov. 3 for Deeds, Wagner and Shannon.
As noted by the Charlottesville City Board of Elections, the last day to submit an application for an absentee ballot to be mailed is Oct. 27. The final day to vote absentee in person is Oct. 31.
