My trust in the democratic process was rudely jolted a few days ago.

As I was leaving a social gathering, I noticed that two men were discussing Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, and I asked them whether they would like me to forward to them a couple of e-mails about her that I had recently received. (I should explain that these men were members of a community made mostly of professionals whose successful careers had enabled them to enjoy a comfortable retirement.)

One of the men asked whether the e-mails were positive or negative.

When I said that they were mostly negative, he replied, “Then I don’t want to see them. I like her, and I think she would be good for the country.”

The other man noted that, since I was a woman, he would have thought I would be glad to see a woman as vice president.

I demurred that gender was irrelevant.

He added: “There’s one thing that I really like about Sarah Palin.”

And what is that, I asked.

His response: “The sparkle in her eye!”

The reason these gentlemen probably passed on your offer is that the negative emails that are circulating re: S. Palin are mean-spirited, lame attempts to disparage this smart, effective and wholesome woman.  We’ve all heard it already, the firing of the cop that deserved it, the rape kti remibursement, etc.  The simple fact is that Move-On.org and the rest of the self-hating liberals that generate this garbage take glee in anything that weakens our nation and institutions, and are repulsed by examples of true virtue, like Sarah Palin.  If you think this information is relevant and adds value to the debate, then you are either naive, or worse.
