Leaders must look beyond their power

» 1 Comment | Post a Comment

We live in a turbulent world where politicians make promises they can’t keep. Man has had more than 6,000 years to set matters straight. Government leaders offer little hope. Things have gotten worse, not better. More money is spent on nuclear weapons than anything. Thousands of people are starving; governments seem more concerned with raising foreign currency to finance their wars than with feeding their citizens.

Hospitals don’t seem to care anymore; doctors have no affection for their patients. Success is often measured by the size of one’s paycheck or by how much a person owns. Some one billion people live in slums; 2.6 billion people lack basic sanitation; 1.1 billion people are without safe drinking water (Worldwatch Institute).

Ecclesiastes 8:9 says that man has dominated man to his injury. History is a tale of efforts that failed. Man cannot direct his own step. I would love to live to see the day when man can rule without pride, selfish interests and prejudice.

Things have gotten better, not worse

You have some of your numbers wrong:

1.  We (the US) spend a lot less than you guess on nukes.  Last year, we spent $17 billion for nuclear weapons.  But we spent $35 billion on the Dept of Homeland Security.  Our whole budget is $2,650 billion.
2.  Humans have been her a lot longer than 6,000 years.  We have been on earth at least 100,000 and probably longer than 400,000 years.
3.  We live longer because we have hospitals and medical researchers working to cure diseases.
4.  More people have better living conditions and clean water than ever before.
5.  Religion has been with us as long as we have been here.  But for the most part, the Bible and the other books like it have caused more problems and confusion than help.

I don’t know where you get your figures but you are very misinformed.  Things are tough enough for us without ignorant people confusing the facts.
