Look to his resume; Perriello deserves election
In this election cycle both national parties are calling for change. Though each party has its spin on the subject, there is unanimity in the declaration that Washington is broken.
During her 1996 campaign for the Virginia Senate, I co-founded Republicans & Independents for Couric. On Oct. 19, 2001, a notice about her death in the New York Times said: “Ms. Couric was a moderate on many issues and often found common ground with the Republican majority in the Senate.” Emily exceeded all expectations, and today we need elected officials who in like fashion will represent their constituents, be they Republicans, independents or Democrats.
For the second time I ask voters to consider supporting a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives. My reasons today run parallel to those in 1996. We have a representative who is out of touch with his constituents and void of leading in a way to improve economic conditions in our district. He does not understand world issues that bear grave consequences for out nation. We need a representative who will go to the root cause of the problem, not the symptoms, and define the cure.
Tom Perriello, risking personal safety, voluntarily served our national interests in Afghanistan and Sierra Leone with his boots on the ground, and developed resolutions to problems that seemed insurmountable. Virgil Goode’s way of dealing with Muslim extremism was to criticize the use of the Quran by a legally elected native born American Muslim being sworn in as a U.S. representative from his home state of Minnesota.
We are short on time to reclaim for our children and grandchildren the words spoken by Abraham Lincoln, “a government of the people, by the people, for the people.” Let us not see it perish! I therefore ask voters to give their support to Tom Perriello, a man who will return honor, dedication and respect to the title U.S. representative.
