Shannon has many good qualifications

For many years, we have been following Steve Shannon’s commitment to bettering the lives of Virginia’s citizens.
Initially, we were quite impressed with the young man who, walking door-to-door in our former Vienna neighborhood, stopped to chat with us as we worked in the garden. We, and a majority of the area voters, voted for Steve. He was elected — and re-elected. Here are a few reasons why:
Steve and his wife, Abby, helped create Virginia’s first Amber Alert program, a public safety initiative that uses the broadcast media to help police recover an abducted child. He’s worked hard passing other legislation to make Virginia’s children safer, including requiring local law enforcement to notify school boards of missing children, closed a loophole in Virginia’s indecent liberties statute for the protection of children, and supported funding for anti-gang initiatives. And he recently introduced legislation to combat the manufacturing and trafficking of illegal drugs in Virginia.
He was named Legislator of the Year by the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Dis-tricts for pushing legislation that holds polluters accountable when they violate state environmental laws. Hunters, fishermen and others who love the outdoors also support Steve for his work in protecting Virginia’s natural heritage.
We could cite many other great reasons to elect Steve Shannon as Virginia’s attorney general. Instead, we’ll just point out that more than 40 law enforcement and first response organizations and officials and across the state have endorsed Steve. What more needs to be said?
