Slutzky not responsive

» 2 Comments | Post a Comment

As many in our Airport Acres neighborhood know, we had an issue with the way the land behind our home was being cleared. We tried several times to contact the current Rio Supervisor, David Slutzky, to ask for his advice and help. When Slutzky finally did get back to us, it was too late to correct the situation.
What reason did he give for his untimely response? Slutzky said he had just been “too busy” to get back in touch with us any sooner.
Rodney Thomas is challenging Slutzky for the Rio seat on the board. Rodney has 30 years of customer service experience as a small business owner and eight years of constituent service experience as a planning commissioner.
At a recent candidate forum at Hollymead Elementary, both candidates were asked what letter grade they would give themselves for constituent service? Rodney Thomas: “A+”; David Slutzky: “D”.
The choice for Rio supervisor is clear. For the past four years we have experienced inexcusably poor constituent service under Slutzky. We need to elect someone who knows how to provide superior constituent service and will not be “too busy” to get back in touch with Rio citizens. We need to elect Rodney Thomas to the Rio seat on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors on Nov. 3.

@ albemarlecjd and Slutzky.  How can a supervisor act in the best interest of his constituents by not talking to them.  Slutzky is too busy for the people who voted him into office.  Right!  Thankfully we have elections this Tuesday.  Get rid of King Slutzky.

Too busy actually doing the work the job entails, perhaps.  Whether or not Slutzky holds the hands of voters may be up for debate - what isn’t up for debate is that he’s tireless and effective worker who’s achieved real results for Albemarle.  He’s a full time supervisor, and though it’s unfortunate that the issue referenced in this letter had a deadline (though the above leaves it unclear what “it” really was or whether or not “it” truly did), I’ve never known Mr. Slutzky to fail to respond to an important issue raised in a timely fashion.

If you want an ineffective Supervisor who will devote all of his time to constituent services at the expense of actually finding solutions for the County, then maybe your recommendation is a good one.  I, however, much prefer knowing that my elected officials are capable of doing the job they were elected to perform, even if the occasional e-mail from me goes unanswered for an extra couple days.
