Virginia is ripe for green reform

The title of the Oct. 7 article “Planning Commis-sion: Allow wind turbines” (The Daily Progress) brings up the crucial point that Virginia should not only allow more wind turbines, but should also be jumping at the chance to invest in this and other clean energy technologies.
Just as their name suggests, fossil fuels like oil and natural gas are stuck in the past. We need to end our addiction to fossil fuels, for a healthier planet, safer nation and better economy in the future.
Virginia is uniquely positioned to benefit from a clean energy economy: According to the Univers-ity of Massachusetts, renewable energy provisions in the U.S. House version of the clean energy package are projected to create more than 28,000 new jobs here in the commonwealth. Furthermore, we can meet 25 percent of the commonwealth’s electricity demands through offshore wind power alone (according to the Virginia Coastal Energy Research Consortium).
The potential to repower Virginia is within our reach, but we need the U.S. Senate to pass strong clean energy legislation this fall. With such great renewable assets like offshore wind, Sen. Mark Warner and Jim Webb should be leading the charge.

Oh yea, bigal 2 more. Geothermal, cant run cities on geothermal unless you dig up the state of west virginia to run enough line to power the state of Ohio. Natural gas does work, but you need to pull it out of the ground.
Please inform the enviro nut groups and our government that yes…natural gas works.

Solar? its been around for about 40 yrs, a $35,000 system on your
roof wiil power only your hot water heater. Want to power your whole house? we are talking $150,000.00
and that only works if you live somewhere that does not have a lot of rain. Wind mills have been around for about 2000 years, they work great
as long as the wind is blowing. If these 2 technologies were viable, everybody would have them, but the fact is that less than 5% of our power comes from solar or wind. Hopefully, improvements in these technologies will make them realistic one day, but they do not fit into todays world. But to tax our present fossil fuel technologies out of business with nothing economically equal to replace it is madness
Somebody has pulled the wool over your eyes.
