We need better health care now

The American health-care system is broken, and my family and business are tired of waiting for the long-needed overhaul.
Too many of my friends go without medical attention because they cannot afford the cost of health care. It took a major injury to my head to discover I had tumors embedded in my cheek. Had I had available to me early and preventive care, I would have not been faced with a life-threatening operation and bills I cannot pay.
President Obama has challenged Congress to pass real health-care reform based on preventive care and a public insurance option, and to en-sure quality affordable care for every American.
Do not be fooled by the canard that politicians will determine what care we get and who we go to. A similar system already exists, but it is the insurance companies that determine what care we get and who we go to.
I urge readers to write or call their congressmen and urge them to pass comprehensive health care now.

Reader Reactions
Despite respect and sympathy for your situation:
1. What preventive care do you think would have thwarted tumors? Has any insurer actually denied you treatment (ie, decided what care you get)?
2. You want universal, high-quality, affordable healthcare ... from the government that manages immigration, balanced budgets, nation building, and disaster-response SO WELL.
3. Reform is good if it results in improvement, but not every change is good change (sorry Obama).
