Greatness happens here

So what are we, chopped liver?

Virginia placed three sites on three national lists of Top 10 Great Places in America.

They were all in eastern Virginia.

The American Planning Association recognized Duke of Gloucester Street in Williamsburg as a Great Street for its stunning recreation of a colonial environment.

The Boardwalk at Virginia Beach also made the list as a Great Public Space, as did the Historic Hilton Village in Newport News as a Great Neighborhood.

Congratulations to these cities and sites.

But the rest of the state has some great places, too.

In the past, Richmond’s Monument Avenue and Arlington’s Clarendon and Wilson boulevards have been named great streets, but nothing in our part of the state has attracted the APA’s approval.

Come on, now. The Downtown Mall is a pretty Great Street.
