November election voter registration deadline nears

First-time voters have less than one week to register to cast ballots in Virginia’s Nov. 3 general election.

The deadline to register or to update a voter registration is Oct. 5.

The state Board of Elections said yesterday that calls about registering and other election-related questions are increasing as the deadline approaches.

Virginia residents can see sample ballots and check their voter status and polling places online at the board’s Web site, http://www.sbe.virginia.gov.

Assistance also is available by calling the board at 1-800-552-9745 or the local registrar’s office. —The Associated Press
