Council parkway vote may be coming soon
The City Council will likely vote on the final design for a multimillion-dollar Meadowcreek Parkway interchange before the year’s end, but questions remain about paths for bicyclists and pedestrians in the project.
“We didn’t fully realize the implications of what we approved, I guess,” Councilor Satyendra Huja said in an interview.
The $32.5 million interchange will be the terminus of the 2-mile-long parkway, which begins in Albemarle County and goes through McIntire Park in Charlottesville, eventually connecting to the U.S. 250 Bypass at McIntire Road. Last year, councilors approved a diamond-shaped concept for the interchange that included plans for multiple trails, bike paths and pedestrian bridges that could provide access into McIntire Park.
“These are conceptual drawings,” said Jeanette Janiczek, the city’s Virginia Department of Transportation program manager, at the council’s Monday meeting.
