Madison County prevailed in grand fashion over Altavista, 41-38, in front of tons of raucous Mountaineer faithful in the Group A, Division 1 final at VCU’s Siegel Center on Friday to claim its first state title in 33 years.

The Mountaineers put the ball on the ground three times, missing the chance to extend their season in a 10-0 loss to the Colonels in the Region B, Division 1 semifinals.
