Almost an hour after the last pitch was thrown, Virginia baseball coach Brian O’Connor crept slowly towards the team bus, pausing to sign a baseball for a young fan.

Considering that not even 24 hours had passed since Virginia’s baseball season came to a dramatic halt, it would have been understandable if the Cavaliers had hung their heads as their fans greeted them at Davenport Field on Thursday night.

After blowing a two-run lead in the top half of the ninth inning, Virginia fell 4-3 in 12 innings in Wednesday night’s elimination game against Arkansas in the College World Series.

Having assumed the role as a rookie at Virginia, Tyler Cannon did not do a double take when he saw his name penciled in the lead-off spot in the lineup card Monday.

With Andy Wilkins homering and driving in five runs, Arkansas started off the College World Series with a 10-6 victory over Cal State Fullerton on Saturday.

Arkansas law loophole allowing anyone over the age of one hour to marry providing parents signed off on the marriage, was repealed by a measure signed into law Wednesday by Gov. Mike Beebe, ending months of embarrassment for the state and confusion for county clerks. Lawmakers didn’t realize until after the end of last year’s regular session that a law they approved, intended to establish 18 as the minimum age for marriage, instead removed the minimum age to marry entirely.
