Today, Virginia (14-3-3) looks to keep things going when it hosts visiting Bucknell in the second round of the NCAAs. The winner moves on to face the N.C. State-Portland winner.

For the first time in a span of 256 games, a stretch dating back to 2004, Virginia’s baseball team connected on a leadoff home run.

The long balls sparked Virginia to a sweep over Bucknell in the season’s first doubleheader. After winning the opener 7-0, the Cavaliers mounted a mid-game rally to win the nightcap 6-1.

With an announced crowd of 1,023 fans braving blistering conditions, Virginia drilled a pair of home runs and its pitching staff held Bucknell to just four hits in a 12-0 romp.

Some basketball recruiting gurus aren’t completely sold on Virginia’s incoming class. Bob Gibbons, one of the more respected evaluators of talent, isn’t one of them.
