Entering the game on a two-game skid, Fluvanna County was eager to get back to their winning ways. Thanks to a potent running attack and a gritty performance from quarterback Ryan Foster, the Flying Flucos did just that Friday night in front of the Charlottesville home crowd, defeating the Black Knights 33-22.

Three proved to be the magic number for Monticello on Friday night, as senior running back C.J. Page — who wears that digit as his uniform number — exploded for three of his four touchdowns in the third quarter to propel the Mustangs to a 34-14 victory against Charlottesville, their fifth straight over the Black Knights.

Western Albemarle has established its place at the top of the Jefferson District, going unbeaten in its first seven games. The battle for second place is heating up though, with a pair of one-loss teams — Louisa County and Goochland, which are set to play Friday night.

Dillon Hollins, making a surprise start at quarterback, scored two first-quarter touchdowns to get Louisa County off to a quick start, and the Lions rolled to a 46-6 homecoming victory over Charlottesville on Friday night.

Much of Louisa County’s success this season has come from the defensive side of the ball, which is led by a strong group of linebackers.

One measure of a good team is how well it responds to adversity. Well, Western Albemarle passed its toughest test of the season — against a good Charlottesville team — with flying colors.

Western Albemarle football coach Ed Pierce doesn’t have to think too far back to remember how it feels to finish a regular season undefeated. Pierce led his 2003 team to a perfect 10-0 record, Jefferson District championship and appearance in the postseason.
