Following Thursday night’s 83-61 loss to North Carolina, Virginia coach Dave Leitao was effusive in his praise of UNC guard Ty Lawson. Lawson, Leitao said, managed the game perfectly.

Ed Davis, an in-state product — he played at Richmond’s Benedictine High — had been one of their top targets from the time they replaced former Virginia coach Pete Gillen four years ago.

There’s no doubt that Virginia is off to its shakiest start since coach Dave Leitao came aboard prior to the 2005-06 season. UVa, in the midst of a two-week hiatus due to winter exams, sits at 3-3.

Rising high school senior Ryan Kelly, who has been in Charlottesville all week for the NBA Top 100 Camp, is one of Virginia’s main targets for the Class of 2009.
