Park View used a balanced offense and let its defense do the rest in its Region II, Division 3 semifinal game on Friday night.

Western Albemarle football coach Ed Pierce doesn’t have to think too far back to remember how it feels to finish a regular season undefeated. Pierce led his 2003 team to a perfect 10-0 record, Jefferson District championship and appearance in the postseason.

Now, with his grades in order, White has earned a spot in the starting lineup and has been named one of the Warriors’ captains.

Both Western Albemarle and Fluvanna County run the spread. The Warriors ran it to perfection on offense and defended it exceptionally well on defense to rout the homestanding Flucos 35-0 on Friday.

Western Albemarle travels to Fluvanna County tonight in a game that could be a turning point in the season for the winner.

“It has been a pleasure to coach him — he’s one of those exceptional kids who doesn’t come around often,” Western coach Ed Pierce said.

“That felt good,” said Western coach Ed Pierce. “It’s a new scheme and you have to get the timing right and the quarterback has to put it where it needs to go.“

Albemarle used a second-half surge, powered by its effective passing game, to pull away from a pesky Western Albemarle team on Friday night.

Tonight at 7:30 p.m. county rivals Albemarle (0-1) and Western Albemarle (1-2) will get a chance to test out all their new elements against an old rival as the two meet at Western.
