Firefighters weathering temperatures in the low 20s on Saturday afternoon beat back a fire that ultimately destroyed a Nelson County home and sent a firefighter to the hospital with minor injuries.

Jason Hamshar knew something was wrong. He thought he smelled smoke, so he checked throughout their duplex on North Berkshire Road in the city.

Fire investigators have determined a faulty forklift was the cause of a Friday fire that caused $500,000 of damage to a building in The Square industrial center in Crozet.

A bolt of lightning was responsible for a fire Saturday that seriously damaged the Crozet trailer where a volunteer firefighter lived.

Nelson County fire damages Taylor’s Creek Road home as units from Wintergreen and Albemarle County and other neighboring fire stations help battle the blaze. The fire is in the same general Albemarle County-Nelson County-Augusta County area as Thursday’s Interstate 64 shootings and this morning’s wounding incident on Yonder Hills Farm Road.
