The Bulldogs fought off fatigue and long hours on the road to beat Western Albemarle 60-52 Wednesday afternoon in the third-place game of The Daily Progress/NBC 29 Holiday Basketball Classic at Albemarle High School.

The Liberty Christian girls basketball team used a flurry of solid defense and great work on the boards to knock off Charlottesville 41-34 in the first round of The Daily Progress/NBC 29 Holiday Basketball Classic.

Liberty Christian’s senior combo of 6-foot-2 forward Jelena Antic and 6-foot-3 center Hanka Musa each scored 23 points and combined for 20 rebounds as the Bulldogs held off the Saints 61-51 to advance to the state semifinals this weekend in Fairfax.

After a tough weekend, Blue Ridge got back to its winning ways by defeating Liberty Christian in the VIC Division I semifinals, 62-31.

The reigning state champions remained undefeated, handling Fork Union 41-27 despite a late push from the home team.

After putting up a good fight against defending state champion Liberty Christian, the Eagles make the trip to St. George looking to bounce back behind senior tailback Luke Heinsohn.

The Covenant football team will have its hands full this afternoon when Liberty Christian comes to town.
