After sitting out last week’s victory over Strasburg, Logan Terrell was both an unstoppable force and an unmovable object as Madison County rolled to a 41-0 win.

In the third overtime against Fluvanna, Logan Terrell took a handoff from Dustin Kirby and ran three yards for the 26-20 win Friday night.

The Mountaineer faithful made their presence felt at Monticello High, and their team didn’t disappoint as Madison held off a fourth-quarter rally from Northampton to win, 66-57.

In front of a packed house at Madison County, junior Logan Terrell and the Mountaineers held on to defeat George Mason in the quarterfinals of the Region B Division 2 tournament on Wednesday, 59-44.

Logan Terrell is also a key reason Madison is a perfect 21-0 after an unbeaten regular season. The Mountaineers will try to keep that streak going Wednesday night in the Bull Run District semifinals against Manassas Park.

“My dad was on that [1977] team,” David Falk said. “They went 21-0, and it’s real nice for us to be able to do the same thing that they did. But it’s 0-0 now. We’re going to have to play one game at time.”

Western Albemarle point guard Ryan Hughes is the steady hand that has helped put the Warriors in contention for the district title. But in a must-win game against Charlottesville, Hughes couldn’t help Western much, stuck on the bench with an injury he suffered early in the first half.

On Friday, the Mountaineers dispatched Manassas Park 58-38, but committed 19 turnovers in the process — something Taylor will not accept.

With Madison County entering Saturday night’s game with an undefeated record and a No. 1 ranking in Group A courtesy of the Associated Press, Monticello looked to knock the Mountaineers off their lofty perch. Like Madison’s previous 14 opponents, the Mustangs left with a loss, 66-52.

The Mountaineers are now 8-0 on the young season and 4-0 against JD teams, after previously knocking off William Monroe (twice) and Orange County.

With several of Madison’s previous opponents losing Friday, Goochland (6-4) edged out the Mountaineers (8-2) for the final playoff spot, finishing with 19.55 power points to Madison’s 19.5.

Madison County quarterback Will Taylor threw two interceptions, but made up for it with a pair of touchdown runs to lead the Mountaineers to a 16-6 victory over George Mason on Friday.

It’s safe to say that after a handful of turnovers — and a healthy dose of Eastern View running back Stevie Strother — Madison County is ready to move past Friday night’s 34-20 road loss and gear up for Bull Run District play.

Stuart Dean has a problem that most coaches in the area would like to have. He has a pair of stud running backs in Logan Terrell and Devon Boone, and only one football to split between the two.
