Fluvanna County is seeing red — Rodney Redd, that is.

Fluvanna County’s Joel Gray will no longer be the Flucos’ head football coach after he relinquished his post Friday.

“I’ve never seen anyone happier to put on a pinny,” Monticello’s Jacob Pelton said.

Orange County’s postseason fate is unknown, but one thing is for sure — the Hornets came a step closer to reaching their goal Friday night.

Monticello (2-0 JD, 5-1) is in the driver’s seat in the Jefferson District, and following its thrilling 23-21 victory over Courtland, appears poised to make another postseason push.

Another week, and another Jefferson District showdown.

Louisa, who is 4-1 and has already surpassed its win total from a year ago, hopes the trend continues against district foe Monticello tonight.

“I got burnt a lot last year,” Khiry Washington said. “But you learn from that because that causes losses — you’ve just got to stay deep.”

But don’t forget, Monticello’s defense is not too shabby either. In fact, the Mustangs return their entire secondary from a year ago, and the 2008 edition is stronger, faster and more experienced.

“We’re not going to do 48 pushups ever again —not even close,” said Albemarle linebacker Kendall Ravenell.

Odds are good that the battle for Jefferson District supremacy this season will come down to Monticello and Orange County.
