Micalah Sacre tossed a one-hitter to lead Orange County to a 1-0 victory over Monticello in the Jefferson District softball final on Thursday.

The string of upsets in the Jefferson District boys soccer tournament finally ended with the second semifinal game Tuesday night between sixth-seeded Orange County and seventh-seeded Louisa County.

The Lions put together just three hits in the first seven innings, but strung together four hits and capitalized on two defensive errors in the eighth inning to keep their season alive and shock the Hornets, 4-1.

After pounding on the door for a solid 20 minutes in the second half, Warriors forward Aaron Myers scored the game’s only goal to lift his team to a 1-0 victory.

The Western Albemarle and Orange County baseball teams came into Friday night’s showdown in Crozet boasting undefeated records, but after capitalizing on eight Warriors errors, it was the Hornets who managed to keep their perfect season intact with an 8-4 road win.

That attack mentality started with Minor on the fast break, and the senior put together a monster game as the Black Knights rolled past Jefferson District tournament champion Orange County 72-42 in the Region II, Division 4 final. Minor flirted with triple-double territory, finishing with 23 points, seven rebounds and eight assists.

Lafayette swimming and diving coach Harold Baker’s teams have been no stranger to the podium at the state championship over the past few years, and Saturday’s swimming portion of the weekend event proved to be no different.

After a tough weekend, Blue Ridge got back to its winning ways by defeating Liberty Christian in the VIC Division I semifinals, 62-31.

The Hornets, fresh off a thrilling win over Western Albemarle on Tuesday, kept the momentum going on Friday night, dispatching a pesky Monticello squad in the quarterfinals of the Jefferson District tournament.
