Bush’s Monticello visit an embarrassment

It was with great dismay that I learned of the decision to have President George W. Bush as the guest speaker at this year’s naturalization ceremony at Monticello on July 4.

Only the earlybirds got the tickets.

“This is one of the greatest countries in the world and the best place to live,” Krishnamacher Rajagopalan said. “We’ve been in the process of becoming citizens for eight years. We’re excited to be citizens and to be able to vote in the next election as well.”

Bush to make Independence Day speech at Monticello

President Bush will be the featured speaker at Monticello’s 46th annual Independence Day Celebration and Naturalization Ceremony. He will become the fourth sitting president to participate in Independence Day activities at Monticello, joining Franklin D. Roosevelt (1936), Harry S. Truman (1947), and Gerald R. Ford (1976), according to a news release from Monticello.
