Area girls out of spelling bee
Mariel Andersen, a 13-year-old Burley Middle School student, was eliminated in the Scripps National Spelling Bee’s second round Thursday, even though she had spelled her word — “agrostologist” — correctly.
She spelled her word correctly, but she’s still out.
Congratulations to Mariel for making it as far as she did.

Regional spelling bee winner hopes to ward off butterflies
Mariel Andersen isn’t expecting to win the Scripps National Spelling Bee. She just really, really wants to survive the first round.
