Virginia women’s basketball assistant coach Curtis Loyd has resigned from his position as an assistant coach on the Virginia women’s basketball staff to pursue other opportunities, UVa coach Debbie Ryan announced Friday.

“Curtis Loyd has helped us get to where we are today,” Ryan said in a statement. “We are particularly thankful to him for his contributions in player development and strategies on the floor. We will miss him and wish him well for the future.”

Loyd has been a Virginia assistant for the last five years. He joined the UVa staff after six seasons as an assistant coach at Arizona.

“I’d like to thank the University of Virginia, Debbie Ryan and the athletics administration for giving me the opportunity to work for such a prestigious program,” Loyd said in a statement.

“I have enjoyed my time here at the University and will greatly miss all of the things that make this program and University so unique. I’d especially like to thank the players, past and present, for their hard work and efforts. I wish them well in everything that they do both on and off the court.”

Just where is Curtis Loyd going? I’m sure you would have told us if you knew. Anyway, he did a good job at UVA and he will do fine if he intends to stay in women’s basketball coaching. Geno Auriemma was an assistant there also and he has done quite well at UCONN, to say the least.
