UVa women 14th in preseason poll

Connecticut picked up right where it left off last season: unanimous No. 1 in the women’s basketball poll.
The Huskies received all 40 first-place votes Friday from a national media panel. It’s the seventh time in school history Connecticut has held the top preseason ranking by the Associated Press. UConn also was the unanimous choice atop the poll the final 15 weeks last season.
Virginia earned the No. 14 spot in the poll and was the third-highest ACC team behind No. 5 North Carolina and No. 6 Duke. Florida State was No. 15 and Georgia Tech was No. 19. Maryland and Boston College also received votes.
Stanford was voted second. Ohio State was third and Notre Dame was fourth.
UConn won its sixth national championship last season to cap a 39-0 season.
Huskies coach Geno Auriemma returns four starters, including player of the year Maya Moore.
