WOMEN’S HOOPS: Zoll invited to WNBA draft

Sharnee Zoll’s day planner is suddenly booked solid on Wednesday. The former Virginia women’s basketball star was invited to the WNBA Draft in Palm Harbor, Fla., at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
Zoll, the all-time ACC assists leader, was one of 20 players invited to attend the festivities, a direct sign of interest in the point guard following the professional league’s two-day pre-draft camp, which was held Friday and Saturday in Tampa.
“[Virginia assistant coach] Jeff House told me before that I was being considered, and then after they asked me, it was of course an honor just to be asked back,” Zoll said. “They said that means a couple of teams are interested in you, so I am excited, but you never know what is going to happen.”
The draft itself consists of four rounds and 48 overall selections and despite the uncertainty of how the draft will unfold — at least after Tennessee’s Candace Parker and LSU’s Slyvia Fowles are taken — Virginia coach Debbie Ryan said she thinks Zoll should be “honored” by the invite.
“She played well during the draft camp,” Ryan said. “I went over to watch her play in one session when they let us in and she played very well and I heard that she played well throughout, but I don’t think that means anything.
“You just don’t know, but there has to be some feedback to ask her back.”
In her career at Virginia, Zoll scored 1,169 points, dished out 785 assists and had 234 steals. Zoll started 131 of her 133 games.
