After weeks of waiting, Virginia has its starting quarterback.
When Virginia took the field for its first offensive possession, sophomore Pete Lalich entered the huddle and collected the first snap from center Jack Shields.
It marked the starting debut for Lalich and ended weeks of speculation about the position’s leader.
Throughout training camp, Virginia coach Al Groh failed to name a starter. Matters were made worse when the quarterbacks – supposedly on their own – elected to remain off limits from the media.
