Barring an issue with his admission to school, former Virginia quarterback Pete Lalich is slated to become a student-athlete at Oregon State University on Monday.
When contacted late Tuesday night during his on-going visit to Corvallis, Ore., Lalich confirmed that that he would join the Beavers’ program if the necessary paperwork was completed.
“It’s getting pretty close,” he told The Daily Progress.
Sources at Oregon State said that Lalich’s first-year transcripts should not create a problem in getting his admission into school by the time that classes open Monday. The school operates on a quarter system and it remains possible that Lalich could redshirt this season, retaining three years of eligibility, although it would require the permission of the NCAA.
Lalich, who looked at UCLA, said he picked Oregon State over Cincinnati.
A source close to the Bearcats’ program said that Lalich would have been forced to wait until the 2009-10 season to become a scholarship athlete.
Last week, Lalich was removed from the Virginia football program after starting the season’s first two games.
