J’Courtney Williams
J’Courtney Williams, a four-star linebacker prospect, is no longer a part of Virginia’s football program according to coach Al Groh.
“J’Courtney’s time here has unfortunately been marked by issues which fall below the line of what is acceptable to us,” Groh said through a released statement. “Therefore, he will no longer be a member of our program.”
Williams was involved with a pair of incidents with local authorities, having been charged with marijuana possession and, most recently, single counts of credit card theft and credit card fraud.
Williams, who is from Danville, was limited in practice during his first semester after issues arose with both shoulders. He had since had operations on both and was considered at one time to be a factor on the two-deep at inside linebacker.
It was not the first instance involving local police and a member of Virginia’s football program during the current semester. Virginia cornerback and special teams standout Mike Brown was arreested and charged with three felones, including grand larceny. Brown, released on bond, is scheduled to appear in Charlottesville General District Court on April 24 and remains on the Cavaliers’ roster.
While Groh did not entertain questions about the matter during a teleconference Wednesday, he said that off-field issues were “unsettling.“
Calls to Williams were not immediately returned.

A sign of the times! A player guilty? of theft is dro[pped from the team. What has happened to the Honor System? In my day 1940 he would have been automatically expelled from the University. Now it is coaches choice? 1940BA
