It will start with an in-state opponent.

It could also finish with an in-state opponent.

After a lengthy wait, the ACC announced the schedules for its 12 member instututions, including Virginia’s slate that features seven home games for the second straight year.

The Cavaliers, who went 5-7 in two of the past three years, will open at Scott Stadium with William & Mary on Sept. 5.

After hosting Texas Christian on Sept. 12, Virginia will play at Southern Mississippi and North Carolina in games that are separated by the season’s lone bye week.

Virginia will also face non-conference foe Indiana at home on Oct. 10, which will be the first meeting between the programs, before closing the regular season slate with seven of its eight league games.

In all, Virginia will face nine teams that played in bowl games last season.

The Cavaliers’ home slate includes William & Mary, TCU, Indiana, Georgia Tech, Duke and Boston College before the regular-season finale against Virginia Tech. Road games will be played at Southern Miss, UNC, Maryland, Miami and Clemson.

But 68 of the 119 Football Bowl Subdivision teams go to bowl games. Does going to a bowl game mean that a team is any good?

Going to a bowl game is like going to the NIT in many cases.

Only time will tell if this is a tough schedule. However, Virginia did play one of the toughest schedules in college football this past year!

Things don’t look nice and easy for the Cavs this football season. I’m hoping they can somehow come out of this schedule with 8 wins but I’m not overly optimistic that will happen. If it doesn’t, we will probably see a coaching change at season’s end. But, if a revamped offensive unit proves to be the answer, they might just pull it off. I certainly hope so.

I agree with BigAl.  6-6 is most likely.  8-4 a possibility if we overacheive.  But another 5-7 season or worse is not out of the realm of possibility.  Go Hoos!

6-6. 8-4 if we’re really lucky. 3-9 if we aren’t. I’m thinking Al needs 8 wins minimum to keep his job.
